Two goals from Eric Donkor and one each by Theopihlus Nyame, Amos Frimpong and Dauda Mohammed enabled Kotoko to run over their Serbian opponent, FK Jagodina in Sunday’s 80th anniversary match at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Nyame opened scoring for the Porcupines with an excellent header after a corner kick in the 11th minute. A minute later, Captain Amos Frimpong made it 2-0 with a sweet grounder resulting from beautiful attacking play.
Kotoko exerted more pressure on the visitors who lacked the steam to contain the fabulous lads whose purposeful, delightful play gave clear indications of the transformational work Coach David Duncan has been up to.
Eric Donkor got his name onto the score sheet after 32 minutes as his perfect low shot beat goalie Hiroslav Stanenkovk who fruitlessly stretched to is elastic limit to stop the ball.
The organization that preceded Donkor’s goal was just brilliant. Enterprising striker, Duada Mohammed dashed into the box but realizing that he couldn’t pull the trigger, he smartly located Obed Owusu who intelligently put the ball in Donkor’s path for him to fire home.
Jagodina hardly made any incursion throughout the first half. They found it difficult to break into Kotoko’s rear. They run out of energy every passing minute and a water break came in handy but it didn’t prevent the rout.
Eric Donkor fetched his second goal in 58th minute, making it 4-0. From this point, the Porcupines put the game well beyond the Serbians.
Duada Mohammed grabbed the 5th goal two minutes and the fabulous lads lifted their foot off the accelerator, leaving the Serbians off the hook on numerous occasions.
